ANKARA

Turkey's BIST 100 stock exchange closed up 1.14 percent to reach 109,156.47 points on Monday.

The market rose 1,235.13 points after 6.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.67 billion) in trading.

The banking and holding sector indices rose 1.77 and 0.78 percent respectively and the metal industry sector index was the best performer, rising 4.15 percent.

The transport performed worst, dropping 1.12 percent.

Halkbank saw its shares rise 7.96 percent but stocks in Besiktas Football Investments suffered the biggest drop, falling 2.62 percent.

The most traded shares were in Turkish Airlines, Halkbank, Aselsan, the Akbank and Karabuk Kardemir.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 3.8280 by 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT). It had been 3.8300 at Friday's close.

One euro traded for 4.5110 liras by the close, showing an increase from Friday's closing rate of 4.5050.

The BIST Gold Exchange closed 0.15 percent up. However, the price of a kilogram of gold fell to 153,930 liras ($40,294) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT), down from Friday’s price of 154,500 liras ($40,242).

The price of Brent oil went up to $63,96 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT), compared with Friday's close at $62.89.
