A group of 20 young Bosnian arts students in the capital Sarajevo on Tuesday worked to break a Guinness world record for music.

At a historic library run by the Sarajevo Municipality, all 20 students tickled the keys at once in a bid to break the record for the most musicians playing the same piano simultaneously.

If confirmed by Guinness officials, today’s feat will unseat the former record-holders, a teacher and 17 students from Bari, Italy, who all played the same piano in 2014.

The organizer of the event, Iva Pasic, said that besides world record bragging rights, the aim of the attempt is to encourage more young people to take an interest in music.

Pasic said the students have been practicing to capture the record since September.

"These are very talented young pianists who have already won a large number of awards at international, regional, and national competitions,” he added.

Bosnian composer Djordje Jovancic said 20 people playing the same piece on a single piano is a very interesting experience.

"The message here is that work done with great dedication and effort will surely bring results," he added.
