Three Turkish police instructors on Wednesday concluded training of 42 Gambian police personnel on the protection of high level officials and important government installations.

The personnel, who were awarded certificates by Turkish trainers, are from an elite unit in the police.

“We thank the Turkish government for the support. We hope that this relationship will continue,” Omar Darboe, deputy police commissioner, said at the ceremony at the headquarters of the paramilitary in Serrekunda.

The instructors were led by Mehmet Yildiz, who praised the trainees for making the 10-day training a “very interactive and fruitful session”.

Turkey and Gambia has a longstanding security cooperation dating back decades and the country has been benefited from several security trainings.

Since the fall of Yahya Jammeh, Gambia government gave the responsibility of high officials and government installations to an elite unit in the police.
