The head the International Organization for Migration (IOM) met with Sudan’s Foreign Minister on Monday, according to the official SUNA news agency.

During their meeting in the capital Khartoum, IOM Director General William Lacy Swing and Ibrahim Gandur spoke about migration issues as Sudan is a transit country for many illegal migrants mostly from countries in the "Horn of Africa".

"Sudan is ready to work together with the international community to prevent human trafficking and illegal immigration," Gandur said during the meeting, the news agency reported.

In January 2014, the Sudanese parliament approved an anti-human trafficking law that punishes those who commit the crime with up to 20 years in prison or execution.
