DIYARBAKIR, Turkey

A total of 14 people have been remanded in custody in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir for allegedly financing the PKK terrorist organization.

According to the governor’s office on Wednesday, 53 people were detained between Nov. 23, 2016 and Dec. 1, 2017 in Lice district for "financing terrorism", and 13 were sent back into custody.

Another suspect, who was charged for "opposing law on prevention of the financing of terrorism", was remanded in custody on Dec. 11, 2017 by a Diyarbakir court, the statement said.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and EU. In its more than three-decade terror campaign against Turkey, more than 40,000 people have been killed.

Since the group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, more than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives.
