Biman Bangladesh Airlines has ordered 11 more Boeing aircraft as the national flag carrier expands and renews its fleet, bringing its total Boeing orders this year to 25.
The latest order comprises five 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8 jets, according to Boeing.
The agreement follows Biman's largest-ever aircraft order earlier this year.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir announced the latest agreement at a press briefing in New York on Wednesday while accompanying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the UN General Assembly.
Mahdi Amin, the prime minister's adviser, added that the purchase was driven by plans to expand Bangladesh's aviation sector and launch new routes.
"Bangladesh's aviation sector is expanding, and there are plans to launch new routes. For this reason, new aircraft are needed," he said, adding that discussions with Airbus may also take place in the future.
Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing Brad McMullen and Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Rumee A. Hossain signed the agreement in the presence of senior US and Bangladeshi government officials on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Biman currently operates 787, 777 and 737 Next-Generation aircraft across its international network, connecting Bangladesh with major hubs in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe.
