Lufthansa cabin crew will walk off the job on Friday after their union declared a one-day strike, threatening to disrupt flights for much of the day at the airline’s main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
Flights attendants' union UFO said the strike will run from 12.01 am to 10 pm local time (2201 GMT Thursday to 2000 GMT Friday). It called on cabin crew on the main Lufthansa brand to target all departures from Frankfurt and Munich during that window.
At the same time, flight attendants at Lufthansa’s regional subsidiary Cityline are expected to strike at nine German airports.
The UFO accused Lufthansa of refusing to make meaningful progress in negotiations for a new collective agreement and attempting to worsen working conditions. The union said talks had broken down, leaving it no choice but to escalate with industrial action.
Friday’s strike follows a wave of earlier labor unrest this year. In mid-February, the UFO joined forces with the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit for a same-day walkout that forced widespread cancellations.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status before traveling, as significant delays and cancellations were expected, particularly at Frankfurt and Munich.
