DAMASCUS
A car-bomb struck a police officers' club in Syria's capital Damascus on Tuesday, killing seven people and injuring 15 others, local sources told Anadolu Agency.
Syria's interior ministry said a bomber blew up his car after being prevented by security forces from entering the club in Masaken Barza district in Damascus.
According to the sources, a number of regime forces were among those injured in the attack.
Tuesday's attack was claimed by Daesh, according to statements circulated on social media websites.
State-run television earlier said that a "number of citizens" had been killed and injured in the attack.
Last month, Daesh claimed responsibility for a twin bombing in southern Damascus, which killed at least 50 people.
Syria has remained locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.
Since then, more than 250,000 people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced, according to figures released by the UN.
