Police seize over 725 kilograms of drugs across Turkey

ISTANBUL

A total of 727 kilograms (1,602 pounds) of drugs were seized during anti-narcotics operations across Turkey on Wednesday, according to a security source.

The drugs were seized in Istanbul, Mardin, Tekirdag, Bingol and Edirne provinces, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

The Mardin police department said the drugs were found when a light commercial vehicle was spotted during a drone-backed operation. The vehicle was stopped in the town of Midyat.

In Istanbul, 6 kilograms (13 pounds) of marijuana and 120 Indian cannabis roots were seized, the source said.

In another operation, 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of heroin and 9 kilograms (19.8 pounds) of cocaine were seized in Tekirdag, the source added.

In Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras and Edirne province, over 100,000 pills with nearly 5 kilograms (11 pounds) of skunk cannabis were seized.

Moreover, 44 suspects of drug trafficking were arrested in southern and central Turkish provinces of Adana and Eskisehir.
