WASHINGTON
The United States would not support oil exports from any part of Iraq without the appropriate approval of the Iraqi government, a US State Department spokesperson said in a daily press conference.
Victoria Nuland said the US supported a constitutional solution to the dispute over the management of Iraq's hydrocarbon resources and said, "This is our longstanding position. We are continuing to urge the Iraqi government and the regional administration in Iraq's north to reach an agreement over legislation so that they can enhance investment so that everybody knows what the fair legal basis is for this."
Regarding the topic of Turkey's negotiation talks on the oil agreement, Nuland called on neighboring states to "similarly avoid any action or comment that can contribute in any way to increasing tensions."
