A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile southeast of Iraq’s Al-Faw town, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Wednesday.
In an advisory, UKMTO said it received a report of the incident 28 nautical miles (52 kilometers/32 miles) southeast of Al-Faw town.
The master of the tanker reported that the vessel had been struck by an unknown projectile.
The crew was reported safe, and there was no environmental impact reported.
Authorities are investigating the incident, while vessels have been advised to transit the area with caution and report any suspicious activity.
In a separate advisory issued Wednesday, UKMTO said it had received a report involving several merchant vessels in the northern Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
It said the vessels were reportedly subjected to “disabling fire” as part of ongoing military activity in the region, adding that it was unable to confirm any casualties or environmental impact.
The incidents come amid heightened maritime tensions linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict, with a series of attacks reported against military and commercial vessels in regional waters.
Earlier Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its naval forces had targeted two US vessels and eight oil tankers in response to US attacks on five Iranian oil tankers. It did not identify the vessels it targeted.
